Interim Technical Leadership During a CTO Transition
When a CTO leaves or a leadership role remains vacant, technical decisions do not stop. Gridfused provides defined technical leadership during the transition, working with the founder and existing engineering team.
What needs attention during the transition
A leadership gap can leave work moving while the decisions behind it become less clear. Start with the commitments and people already in place.
Decisions awaiting approval and the authority needed to make them.
Product and engineering priorities, including commitments already made to customers.
Knowledge and context that depended on the departing leader.
Coordination with the engineering team and existing suppliers.
What Gridfused can take on
The mandate can cover a defined set of leadership responsibilities while the company determines its longer-term structure.
Establish an agenda for outstanding technical decisions.
Help the founder and team set technical priorities.
Support the existing engineering team and its leaders.
Prepare information that can help the company recruit permanent leadership.
Document decisions and responsibilities for the eventual handover.
Define the mandate together
Before work begins, agree on the responsibilities Gridfused will assume or prepare, the authority retained by the founder, and how decisions will be made.
The role of the CTO, tech lead, Head of Engineering, or other leaders already in place.
Availability, duration, and the rhythm of communication.
The first priorities and how work will transfer to the next leader.
The intended result
A clear structure for responsibilities and priorities during the transition, with decisions and context documented for the next leadership arrangement.
What the mandate does—and does not—cover
Interim leadership is limited to the agreed engagement and does not automatically remove the need to hire a permanent leader. Daily execution, people management, and implementation are included only when explicitly agreed.
Discuss your leadership transition
Tell us what is changing, which decisions need an owner, and who is already involved. We will discuss a suitable mandate and handover.
